Cattle hauls (arrastre de ganado) form a part of livestock fairs and popular festivals throughout the archipelago. Cows and oxen are employed for this purpose.
Cattle hauls are a test of strength and speed wherein a team of cows or bulls attempt to pull a corsa (a type of wooden sleigh that weighs approximately 200kg) loaded with 100kg sacks (six for cows in the third category and up to 11 for bulls in the first category) over a distance of 70 metres (from the starting point and back again) in the shortest possible time, under the orders of a guayero or boyero, who are not allowed to whip the cattle.
