Practically all of the craftwork trades that have been fostered on the Canary Islands are represented in Tenerife. Craftwork involving wood boasts a wide variety of applications on the island, taking in the manufacture of traditional furniture, timples (small traditional guitars), Canarian balconies, boats or cigar boxes.
The abundance of timbre in the past has allowed these trades to survive. Traditional furniture workshops carry out the entire manufacturing process, from carving to cabinetwork, taking in varnishing and upholstery.
The manufacture of timples and cigar boxes involves intricate marquetry, inlays featuring woods of various hues or contrasting materials to produce the restrained designs that are typical of the Canary Islands.
