Salto del pastor

The Salto del Pastor is an activity that is found throughout the Canary Islands, which can be traced back to the vaulting techniques employed by shepherds.

Shepherds were forced to adapt to the rugged landscape of the islands when moving from one place to another in order to carry out their daily chores. To this end they made use of a large wooden pole, generally constructed using Canarian pinewood. In the past, the end of the pole was sharpened into a point or attached to the tip of a horn referred to as the regatón.
