Sailing

Lateen sailing numbers amongst the sports that boast a considerable number of practitioners on the island.

This form of sailing is thought to have originated on the banks of the Nile and was subsequently extended to all areas of the Mediterranean by sailors and merchants.

On the Canary Islands these types of vessels were used for fishing and the transport of merchandise and passengers over the high seas.
